Ahoy! ⚓ Mystic Seaport Museum recently honored the amazing Captain William “Bill” Pinkney with its America and the Sea Award

Pinkney is the first African American to solo sail around the world, finishing a 22-month journey around the southern capes and back to Boston on his 47-foot cutter, named The Commitment, in 1992. He’s also the subject of an award-winning documentary and the first master of the 129-foot replica of the #schooner Amistad—built on-site at Mystic Seaport Museum.

As an accomplished U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, sailor, educator, author and adventurer, Pinkney had many tales from the sea to share along with life lessons all of us can use right here on land. Congrats to this amazing captain and thanks to @mysticseaportmuseum for putting on this event that was nothing but smooth sailing ⛵
